They help to stop the cold from the windows or patio door in winter and block the heat of the sun in summer. Insulated curtains are not just a way to decorate your home, but a unique opportunity to transform your home interior with the help of quality and beautiful window coverings, that also will help you to save a lot on your energy bill. We compared bare windows not covered with anything to the windows covered by insulated curtains. Our experiments show that thermal window curtains more than doubled the insulation quality of a window with thermal drapes hung in it and it saves almost half (45%) on your heating bill in winter and air conditioning bill in summer. Thermal curtains work by acting as a vapor barrier which under typical conditions hinders the flow of air from cold windows into the room where thermal curtains are installed. · We Have 15% Off Discount on all the Curtain Products now This is a good time to save and benefit your home with beautiful energy saving Window Coverings. Thank you very much! 3 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; ThermalWindowCurtians.com Newsletter: January 2014Dear Valued Customers and Friends,In this newsletter you will find out about: · Is it true that the thicker the insulation is the better? · New styles - ThermaSheer and ThermaVoile Insulated Curtains Many people think that the thicker the layer of insulation the better it insulates. It is not necessarily true. Why? We need to understand there are two kinds of heat and they require different ways to control them. We will illustrate by a common experience. The day is cold and clear. You go outside and feel a cold breeze on your face. The breeze stops and you are facing the sun. Now you feel heat from the sun. The temperature has not changed. You first felt cold now you feel heat. Those are the two different kinds of heat - "radiant heat" from the sun and "convective" heat from the air. The cool breeze is taking heat away from your body by a process of convection. The sun is heating your skin by a process of radiation. The sun is always radiating huge amounts of energy/ heat. It keeps our planet from freezing. There is no air in outer space to convect that heat. Radiant heat is also called "infra-red heat". The national building code now requires builders to install windows with what is called "low E" glass. That glass is designed to reflect a significant amount of the radiant heat from the sun. It is also designed to reflect radiant heat from our bodies and other warm objects back into the room so it is not lost on cold days. Insulators are designed to stop or slow down the movement of heat by convection / air. Most of them are very poor at stopping radiation. We are used to insulators like blankets, quilts and heavy clothing. They do not stop radiation of energy. Before we were introduced to a product called a "space blanket" most of us believed that the thicker the insulation the better. "Space blanket" was developed for NASA. It is thin and looks a bit like a tarpaulin. It works very well for both radiant heat and convective heat control. This technology has been adapted in the cold weather clothing industry and advertised as "Thinsulate" and is also used in Thermalogic and Insulated curtains. Thermalogic insulated curtains use a very thin vapor barrier which blocks water vapor from penetrating the curtain and thermal energy from passing through the curtain. The apparent thinness of the insulation coating in curtains is no measure of their insulating value. The insulating liner acts as a vapor barrier, that is its primarily purpose. This way it can control temperature changes. Water vapor is a powerful force for moving heat or cold from a window to the inside of the house. A thicker coating does not contribute to the insulating value. In fact, a thicker coating has proven to be more likely to be damaged in use, ultimately defeating the purpose of insulation. Insulated curtains use the technology of blocking air penetration through the curtain to create an improved insulation effect in a fabric curtain while retaining the beautiful look we all want. A certain amount of "breathability" is necessary for insulation in houses or they will actually "sweat" resulting in structural problems. This is not a problem for curtains because they usually still have some air circulation around them. Visual impressions do not indicate the level of insulation effect. So do not judge the book by its cover. Enjoy the beauty and benefits of Thermal Curtains! Do you want curtains that let the light through, keep out cold and look great doing it? With the Thermavoile Rhapsody Lined Grommet Top Curtains, you don't have to choose between beauty and function. Each panel brings a soft shade to your window and drapes gracefully from top to bottom. It takes just seconds to slip the top grommets on a rod and hang the curtain in the window. And once it's there, you'll get to see its elegant color and feel its smooth, sturdy fabric every day. The filtered light that comes through will instantly give the room a soft romantic look. • Colors: Ivory Natural (Cream, Off White), Mushroom, Agua Blue or White

I live on top of the highest hill in Ellis County, Texas where the sun's heat and glare is BRUTAL--all day, everyday. I replaced several of my heavy blackout drapes with your ThermaVoile sheers at the beginning of this summer. The Thermal sheers are an effective barrier against the heat!!! As a result, I am replacing the blackout drapes that always kept my house dark during the day. ThermaVoile sheers are my new crack! I have become addicted to a bright cheery house because of them. I sure would like to recommend them and your gracious service to others.

Dear Valued Customers and Friends,
· Unconventional Use of Insulated CurtainsIn this newsletter you will find out about: · Very Fast Shipping of Most Products Unconventional Beneficial Use of Insulated CurtainsWe got used to see curtains on windows or sliding patio door and sometimes think that is all the use that is available. In fact there are much more ways how to use them in your house for the purpose of temperature control and energy saving. Thermal drapes & curtains can be used for your benefit also● as a room divider instead of doors to separate an area in your house - for the sake of privacy, or - to save on your heating bill by separating an area which you don't use or don't want to heat much in winter. Rhapsody Lined Insulated Semi-Sheer (in the picture) are especially good for this purpose. They look beautiful from either side and Grommets allow these curtains to easily slide back and forth.
● as closet doors to protect clothes from dust and fading and the room from colder outside walls. The darker the color of the drapes the more they will protect your clothes from fading. A family we know had in their closet ceiling a hatch to the attic, from which a cold breeze was constantly blowing and moving non-insulated thin curtains. When they installed thermal drapes that covered the closet, the wind stopped penetrating in the room, the room became much warmer, while the temperature in the closet remained noticeably colder.

Statistics about energy saving effect of thermal insulated drapesWe hear about thermal curtains being able to save on your energy bill. But how much difference can they make? We would like to demonstrate it by a heating bill of our family, when we moved in a house with bare windows at Christmas time and by the end of January installed thermal curtains just in the living room which had large windows facing east. This house was about 1,400 square feet with 3 bedrooms that have small windows. Those windows remained uncovered in February. The first month (from December 21 to January 25) our gas bill (subtracting Gas company $60 deposit) was $362, the next month when the large windows became covered with insulated curtains it dropped to $211.32, after subtracting Gas company $60 deposit, i.e. it made 45% difference in energy saving.
Here are copies of the gas bills for those two consecutive cold winter months: ![]() ![]() Average temperature in January 2008 in Bluefield, WV: http://weather-warehouse.com/WeatherHistory/PastWeatherData_BluefieldMercerCntyArpt_Bluefield_WV_January.html Average temperature in February 2008 in Bluefield, WV: http://weather-warehouse.com/WeatherHistory/PastWeatherData_Bluefield_Bluefield_WV_February.html If you are looking for ways to save, this is your chance to obtain long lasting results. Failure to Consider this Information may cause Problems There are three major issues in choosing the right curtain(s) for you room: Color, Size and Light Blocking / Penetrating. Color When an order of curtain products of the same color fabric goes into production, those products are made from the same bolt of fabric. Different bolts of fabrics of the same color may have subtle color differences because of new die lot used by fabric manufacturers in every new bolt. No fabric is kept in our factory to guarantee a match up a color shade to previous orders. So if you by any chance decide to order curtains for the same room separately, there is a possibility that the color of your second order will not perfectly match to the color of the curtain products from you first order, though they will be close. Some people do not care or notice the difference in those color shades, but there are others who want a perfect match of colors. Thus a wise move is: to acquire curtains for the same room all together at the same time to be sure that their colors match perfectly. Size Carefully measure your windows (patio door) before choosing the size of drapes for them. You want your drapes to fit your window or patio door, not to be too short or too narrow. Here are guidelines to follow depending on the design of the drapes you are looking for: The main rule for Tab Top and Rod Pocket curtains is that their width must be 1.5 to 3 times wider than your window width. For Pinch Pleated drapes: the width of your window/patio door/drapery rod is about the width of the drape(s) you would need. You may add up to 12 inches to the width if you want the drapes to overlap in the middle and to wrap around the end of a traverse rod. Please, keep in mind that we can also shorten the length of many thermal curtains and drapes. The curtains that we can make shorter have this information on the product description page. Light vs. dark room Before ordering, it is advisable for you to decide how much outside light you want to be blocked by the curtains and /or how much of the light you want to go through, which will make your room lighter, when the drapes are closed at daytime. Rule of thumb is: the darker color of the curtains, the more light they block and the darker they will make your room. To be more specific: The lighter colors, which allow light to go through the most (from the lightest to the darkest, in sequence) are White, Natural, Wheat (Fireside style) and all the colors of Andrea Toile Style (Sage, Wedgewood and Bordeaux). Medium light blocking ability has Linen (Floral), and a little more dark is Red (Fireside style). The most light blocking and darkening effects are (from the lightest to the darkest, in sequence) Sage, Blue, Plaid, Bordeaux, Chocolate (Brown) and Navy Blue (Fireside). Machine Washable Vs Dry Cleaning Please, notice, that some curtains on our website are machine washable (Crosby thermal, Madrid and Lexington Sheer curtains), for others (Fireside, Springfield, Andrea Toile thermal, Astonish Lined) Dry Cleaning in recommended by the fabric manufacturers. Thank you for visiting our website and we wish you pleasant shopping experience. ThermalWindowCurtains.com
