Pinch Pleated Thermal Insulated Drapes

Thermal Pinch Pleated Drapes

You might have noticed that insulated pinch pleated drapes are gradually disappearing off the market. We are thankful for still being able to offer you this wonderful old fashioned product. Pinch Pleated window coverings provide the highest insulating value when used on a traverse rod and with drapes wrapping around its corners.

In summer or in hot climate, Energy Efficient thermal insulated drapes help keep the cool air in and the hot air out by blocking the sun heat coming through the windows. In winter or in colder climate, thermal drapes help minimize cold from the windows.

Choosing the Ridth Width of Drapes

Pinch pleated drapes width is measured at the top. Width is a horisontal dimension (across the opening, from left to right side of your window).

The width of the pinch pleated drapes has to be BIGGER then the width of your casement.

It is because normally people want a pair of pinch pleated drapes to overlap in the middle, which takes away a few inches. If pinch pleated drapes hang on the traverse rod, it is a common practice to get the drapes wrapped around its corners, which takes away additional 7-13 inches from their width.

For example, if your window is 95" wide and you have a traverse rod, then you need a pair of drapes 15"-20" (or even more) wider than your window, to fit it comfortably. These extra inches come from 1) adding 3-4" for overlap in the middle, 2) 8"-10" extra to wrap around corners of the traverse rod. 3) You also want your rod to extend a few (like 4"-6" or more) inches beyond the window frame on each side. If you add all those 3 figures, 4" + 10" +6" = 20 extra inches.
If you have a round decorative rod, then the width of the drapes suppose to be at least 7"-9" wider than the window width (3-4 inches for overlap in the middle and at least a couple of extra inches to add on each side), that the drapes will reach beyond the window width for better insulation and look.

If pinch pleated drapes are a little wider, than your openiong, it is not a problem. They will just hang a little looser. If the width is too narrow, it IS a problem (then the drapes will not cover the window properly, will be too short).
